It requires introspection and self-honesty. The board review was a mix of anxiety and excitement and it was clear that the board members were my equals or better. The feedback was constructive, immensely useful, and accurate." =0D=0A=0D=0A I heartily recommend going through the process! =0D=0A=0D=0A Scott Whitmire; CITA-P =0D=0A=0D=0A Enterprise Architect =0D=0A=0D=0A Nordstrom =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0AEarning a CITA-P Validates your experience as an IT Architect on a global level. The certification is an industry standard, and the only truly global certification on the breadth of architectural skills and knowledge that is technology and vendor agnostic. =0D=0A=0D=0AWhere did the CITA-P Come From? =0D=0A=0D=0AThe CITA-P board certification was introduced by the IASA Board of Education, an international board of independent practitioners, from research and deliberation that took over 5 years to perfect. =0D=0A=0D=0AWhy get a CITA-P =0D=0A=0D=0AReflecting on ones own career, and defending it against a specific set of skills in front of a panel of peers will truly distinguish you as a professional architect. Additionally, receiving a CITA-P grants access to a global community of professional architects, and provides networking opportunities, knowledge share and debate with a network of industry thought leaders. =0D=0A=0D=0AWhat are the qualifications for certification? =0D=0A=0D=0ACITA-P Architects can be certified in one of the following specializations: Software, Infrastructure, Information, and Business. Most CITA-P candidates have between 6 and 10 years of experience as an architect. You can download the Iasa Skills Taxonomy and Assessment to see where your skills align. =0D=0A=0D=0AProcess =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A1. Prepare your individual documentation =0D=0A=0D=0AThe documentation package typically takes 40-60 hours to prepare. It will include: =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0AA resume of your documenting your work history =0D=0A=0D=0APersonal case studies of the first project you work on as an architect; an example of a project that you worked on that failed, and the project that you are most proud of in your career =0D=0A=0D=0AYour skills assessment profile =0D=0A=0D=0AProfessional references =0D=0A=0D=0A4. Take part in some of the optional offerings from the Iasa Community to help your chances of success =0D=0A=0D=0AAttend a mock review board, or view a sample of a mock board here =0D=0A=0D=0AParticipate in Coaching sessions--many Iasa CITA-Ps work with other candidates in a series of coaching sessions, in person or over the phone to help individuals prepare for the arduous process. This can happen at the local chapter level, or Iasa global can help identify a coach if needed =0D=0A=0D=0AMany CITA-P candidates benefit from taking the IASA foundations course prior to taking the CITA-P to help align skills and level set terminology and roles. register here for the Iasa Foundations Course. =0D=0A=0D=0A5. Submit your final documentation =0D=0A=0D=0AYour final documentation package must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to your board review date. This gives ample time for the board members to review your documentation. If you are working with a coach or mentor, you may want to have them review it before submitting as you will not have an opportunity to modify once submitted. =0D=0A=0D=0A6. Appear before the board =0D=0A=0D=0AYou will present before a board that will include 4 CITA-Ps, at least 2 of which will be in your specialization (Software, Infrastructure, Information or Business). A 5th CITA-P will act as a moderator. =0D=0A=0D=0AThe 2 hour session will start with a 30 minute candidate presentation. This is your opportunity to take control of the board process, and build a compelling argument to justify your skills and experience. =0D=0A=0D=0AYour presentation will be followed by a 40 minute question and answer session. Each board member will have 10 minutes to gather the evidence necessary to help you achieve the certification. They will be considering the documentation you submitted and attempting to form a broad opinion of your level of proficiency in relation to the Iasa body of knowledge =0D=0A=0D=0AThere will be a 10 minute break. During the break the candidate will leave the room and the board members will discuss the evidence they have gathered and agree to an approach for gathering additional evidence they need to capture during the second half of the interview =0D=0A=0D=0AThe break will be followed by a second 40 minute interview where each of the four board members will have an additional 10 minute question and answer period with you. During this portion of the process, questions will me more targeted in order to finalize their assessment of your domain knowledge and experience. =0D=0A=0D=0AFAQ =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A What makes the CITA-P different from other IT Architect certification programs? =0D=0A=0D=0AThe biggest distinguishing factor for the CITA-P Certification is that it is validated by the community of practicing architects in the form of a professional association, rather than companies, vendors, or governments. This method of certification has historically been the only successful process for professionalization, as can be documented by other professions, Doctors, Lawyers, Building Architects, etc. =0D=0A=0D=0AHow can hiring managers and HR departments verify CITA-P Certifications? =0D=0A=0D=0AAn online profile will be created as part of the CITA-P Community =0D=0A=0D=0AEnglish is not my first language, will this hurt my ability to pass a board certification? =0D=0A=0D=0AAs local chapters have more and more architects go through certification, the Iasa community will be able to hold boards in local languages globally. This will also help limit the cost of travel. =0D=0A=0D=0AHow much does the certification cost? =0D=0A=0D=0A$2,000 =0D=0A=0D=0AHow many years of experience to I need as an architect to take the CITA-P =0D=0A=0D=0ATypically, successful candidates have between 6-10 years of practical experience in the role of Architect. =0D=0A=0D=0AHow do I maintain my certification and continuing education credits (CEU) requirements? =0D=0A=0D=0AThe easiest way to receive CEUs is through your local chapter events. Iasa also holds global conferences, e-summits and webinars. Iasa has also accredited many industry training and community events. =0D=0A=0D=0ACITA-P will be required to take 20 CEUs per year. You can track and submit your CEUs here. =0D=0A=0D=0AWhat will I receive after I pass? =0D=0A=0D=0AYou will be granted access to the online community, and will receive a framed certificate, and a CITA-P Statue. You will also have access to the CITA-P Logo to include on business cards and email signature. =0D=0A=0D=0AWhat if I do not pass my CITA-P? =0D=0A=0D=0AMany times candidates that do not pass find the process invaluable to their personal and professional growth. The board members will document the skills and experience that you will need to garner in order to pass in the future that can help lay out career path goals. You will be eligible to re-attempt your boards in 12 months. =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A
